VFI Workers Won a Strong Tentative Agreement — And Voted to Ratify It.

VFI won a strong tentative agreement because we fought for it TOGETHER! Members came out and voted to ratify the contract, locking in the raises and protections we fought so hard for.

This tentative agreement would not have been possible without caregivers joining together and pushing VFI to make real improvements. When bargaining started, VFI wanted a one-year extension with no raise. Your bargaining committee knew VFI workers deserved better, so they kept pushing.

The stronger our union is at VFI, the stronger we are when we fight for more funding, better wages, and the respect caregivers deserve. This contract is an important step forward, but we know we still need more. The real fight for major home care funding happens in Harrisburg, and this agreement gives us a chance to reopen the contract if state funding increases.

WHAT'S IN THE AGREEMENT

Because of that work, the ratified contract includes:

  • A 3% raise across the board, effective July 5, 2026

  • A new seniority step for workers with 5+ years, adding another 0.5% increase effective July 5, 2025

  • A new $1/hour "Exceptionally Difficult to Staff" differential for rural or far clients

  • A $2/hour Allegheny County differential for shifts worked in Allegheny County

  • A $3/hour hazard differential for situations like bed bugs and other hazards

  • A re-opener so we can go back to the table if state funding increases

This is in addition to the advocacy time, holidays, and PTO we've won in previous years. These are huge wins and a reminder of why being part of the union matters!

WHY MEMBERSHIP MATTERS

Only active union members had a voice in this vote — make sure you have a voice in what comes next.

VFI is a closed shop, which means every worker is covered — but right now, only about 65% of workers are active members. Non-members will still receive the wage increase, but they didn't get a vote on the contract that raises their wages and shapes their rights at work.

If even half of the remaining non-members sign cards, that's at least 100 new members and a stronger union for the fights ahead — including enforcing this contract and pushing for more.

Don't sit out the next fight. Join the union so you have a voice and a vote.
